Having managed her own chronic disease her whole life with her loving family and her pediatrician, Julia felt the incredible benefits of 24/7 compassionate care. Together with health experts and coaches from Stanford, Harvard and artificial intelligence technologists, they developed Lark- a 24/7 personal AI health coach that texts with people to help them manage and prevent chronic disease – anytime, anywhere.
The group was then treated to presentations by innovators that shared personal stories of how they disrupted the status quo in diabetes healthcare. The breadth of innovations was impressive – from provider education (Project ECHO), patient coaching (Lark), decision-making (Sugar.IQ), and caring for underserved populations (NICH).
The study evaluated the factors of weight loss, changes in meal quality and app utilization in users of the Lark Weight Loss Health Coach AI (HCAI). A total of 70 patients with a BMI above 25 used HCAI to measure its effect in promoting weight loss and healthy diet choices though cognitive behavioral therapy.
Julia Hu, CEO and co-founder of Mountain View, Calif.-based mobile AI chronic condition coaching and nursing platform Lark, said the company's performance-only billing model and affordability offer payers and providers incentive to deploy the text messaging service and covered users the incentive to use it: "Not everyone owns a computer, but almost everyone has some sort of smartphone now," she said. "We work to make sure all the low-power sensors on these phones were completely integrated with our AI nurse such that the Lark coach can pull data from sensors on devices ranging from $10 phones to the iPhone, and provide coaching based on that."
