Frozen bananas are a naturally healthy alternative to ice cream. People often blend them to make a spoonable treat, but you can make them without a blender for less clean-up and a fun finger food. You’ll get fiber and potassium, too! They're ideal for desserts, snacks, and anytime treats.

Have them plain, or try them with chocolate chips, sprinkles, nuts, or any of the other topping ideas for a treat that can still be on your healthy plan. While a typical fruit-flavored frozen bar can have 10-15 or more grams of sugar, plain banana treats, or treats with fruit or nuts, have 0 grams of added sugar. Our other topping suggestions add small amounts of added sugars.

Recipe for Frozen Banana Treats - No Blender Needed

Makes 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 large ripe bananas
  • Any additional ingredients

Instructions:

  • Place wax paper on a cake pan. Clear a space in your freezer for the pan.
  • Cut the bananas in half or in slices. Another option is to cut them in thirds, then cut each third lengthwise a few times to make banana bark.
  • Follow any of the variations below, and then freeze your bananas.
  • Remove from the freezer and thaw slightly before serving.

Variations

  • For plain frozen bananas, place banana pieces in the pan.
  • For bananas on a stick, insert popsicle sticks into each of the four banana halves.
  • Honey and nut: drizzle 1 tablespoon of honey over the banana bark or slices. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of chopped walnuts or other nuts.
  • Granola banana: put ¼ cup granola in a medium bowl. Mix the sliced banana in it to coat.
  • Dessert-worthy: in a bowl, mix the banana with 2 tablespoons of rainbow or chocolate sprinkles. Optionally, add 2 tablespoons of chopped peanuts.
  • Apple cinnamon treats: spread the banana slices or bark in the pan. Top with apple that has been diced, sprinkled with cinnamon, and stewed in 2 tablespoons of water.
  • Chocolate banana: Mix the slices in 2 tablespoons of mini chocolate chips mixed with 1 teaspoon of unsweetened baking cocoa powder. Optionally, include 2 tablespoons of chopped peanuts.
  • S’mores treats: Mix the slices in a bowl with 1 tablespoon of mini chocolate chips, 2 tablespoons of mini marshmallow bits, and 1 square of crushed graham cracker.
